greek0.net: Whe the hell is this page up then?
The reason why I originally put up this whole web server is because I wanted this machine to become more of a server. Previously it was solely intended as desktop machine, which I used for nearly two years now. Lately I had some hardware problems (random crashes), which made me upgrade the system from Pentium II 233 with 192Mb RAM to a Pentium III 500 with 384Mb RAM. At the same time I decided to get a new CD-ROM drive and some more disk space, which I both got for free from a friend of mine (thanks!).
With a total of 7 GB disk space, I decided to make more out of this machine. One thing I always felt as great annoyance was the problem of people behind firewalls wanting to send me files. It has never been a problem for me to send files to others, I've always had more then enough places to put stuff on-line (my Sourceforge project site for YAAI and eimer.ch for example). But some people who wanted to send me files didn't, and firewalls often made direct file exchange impossible. So I thought I'd make a public access server where people could upload files for me.
Of course this would have been possible at Sourceforge too, but I didn't really like the indirection, and I wanted to keep the Sourceforge site for YAAI, without too much personal stuff there. It's kind enough of Sourceforge to offer their services for free to all open source developers, so I really didn't want to exploit their gracious services.
